Agricultural by-products of Capsicum annuum, including leaves and stems, are largely discarded despite being rich sources of bioactive compounds such as polyphenols and flavonoids. This study aims to investigate the potential of pepper by-product extracts as novel agents for improving blood circulation and preventing cardiovascular diseases.

The research focuses on elucidating the mechanisms by which these extracts regulate platelet activation, thrombus formation, endothelial function, oxidative stress, and inflammatory responses. Furthermore, their applicability as functional food ingredients and natural therapeutics for vascular health will be evaluated. The study is expected to provide scientific evidence for the valorization of agricultural waste and the development of high-value natural products for cardiovascular health promotion.

I am a Principal Researcher at the Korea Institute of Oriental Medicine (KIOM). His research focuses on platelet biology, thrombosis, vascular inflammation, and the development of natural products for cardiovascular health. He has conducted extensive studies on the discovery of bioactive natural compounds and the elucidation of their pharmacological mechanisms in blood circulation improvement and cardiovascular disease prevention.

Recently, his research has expanded to AI-assisted natural product discovery, organoid-based disease models, and human-mimetic systems for translational biomedical research. He is actively involved in the development of functional foods and natural-product-based therapeutics.​

The research interests of Dr. Ryu are on the isolation, characterization and biological evaluation of natural products of higher plant origin, and he has worked in particular on compounds with potential chronic inflammatory diseases and metabolic diseases, in addition to the scientific study of botanical dietary supplements.​

▷ This technology converts Schisandra pomace, an agricultural by-product, into a high-value functional material through a solid-state fermentation process, and develops an extract containing bioactive compounds that may help improve sleep quality.

▷ Based on the functional evaluation, standardization, and formulation technology of solid-state fermented Schisandra pomace extract, this technology presents its potential commercialization as a health functional food ingredient and sleep-care product.

After graduating from university, they began their career in 1998 at a major Japanese food manufacturer before joining Yano Research Institute in 2003. They specialize in the overall food market, with a particular focus on the health food and processed food industries. Currently serving as the leader of the Food Group, they oversee the department's entire domain.

They have an extensive track record in feasibility studies for new business ventures, market entry research for foreign companies entering Japan, industry development support for local governments, and market expansion assistance for foreign embassies in Japan.​

Lipid excipients have a proven history of enhancing bioavailability of drugs through the improvement of solubility, permeability, and absorption. Being often liquid at room temperature, they are mainly formulated in liquid forms. That said, oral solid dosage forms such as tablets could benefit from the advantages of lipid excipients. This presentation will highlight different processes to incorporate lipid excipients in oral tablets or powders.

Hongyi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (1st class) and PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology from the National University of Singapore (NUS). During his research, he investigated on solid oral dosage formulations at GEA-NUS laboratory under the supervision of A/Prof Chan Lai Wah and A/Prof Paul Heng.

Prior to joining Gattefossé, Hongyi was a senior technical engineer at Merck Sharpe and Dohme (MSD) and formulation scientist at Clinuvel Pharmaceuticals.

At Gattefossé since 2022, Hongyi is responsible for technical marketing in the pharmaceutical division for the Asia Pacific region, covering oral, topical and rectal drug delivery. Additionally, he is responsible for sales in Thailand, Malaysia, Australia and New Zealand. Outside of work, Hongyi is a keen volleyball player and enjoys travelling.​

Mr. Bok-Jun Park, Team Leader of the Sales & Marketing Team at GF Fermentech, holds a Master's degree in Biotechnology and has over 20 years of experience in the food, nutraceutical, and cosmetic ingredient industries. Throughout his career, he has specialized in the research, technical sales, and marketing of functional ingredients.

He has worked extensively with a wide range of microbial fermentation-based functional ingredients, including amino acids, yeast, DHA, chlorella, astaxanthin, and GABA. His experience spans technical support, B2B sales and marketing, and assisting customers throughout the entire product development process—from ingredient selection and product planning to market application.

Currently, at GF Fermentech, Mr. Park is responsible for the B2B sales and marketing of fermentation-based functional ingredients, with a particular focus on Vitamin K2 and Nattokinase. Leveraging scientific evidence and extensive industry expertise, he provides differentiated ingredient solutions for vascular and bone health.​
